Ce jalon marque le d\u00e9but de la campagne de caract\u00e9risation finale de l\u2019instrument avant le d\u00e9marrage des observations scientifiques, pr\u00e9vue pour cinq ans, \u00e0 partir de d\u00e9but 2020.&nbsp; L\u2019instrument enregistrera des spectres lumineux dans l\u2019ultra-violet, le visible et l\u2019infrarouge. Il est con\u00e7u pour pointer automatiquement vers une liste pr\u00e9cise de galaxies et de quasars pr\u00e9alablement s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s. Il en d\u00e9tectera la lumi\u00e8re et la d\u00e9composera en multiples longueurs d\u2019ondes dans le but de mesurer la distance de ces objets \u00e0 la Terre.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Pr\u00e8s de 38 millions d\u2019objets c\u00e9lestes analys\u00e9s <\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nDesi&nbsp;est con\u00e7u pour mesurer le spectre de 5 000 objets c\u00e9lestes toutes les 20 minutes, soit cinq fois plus d\u2019objets et deux fois plus vite que les meilleurs instruments existants. En cinq ans,&nbsp;Desi&nbsp;devrait ainsi cartographier la distance de 35 millions de galaxies et de 2,4 millions de quasars sur un tiers du ciel. Avec&nbsp;Desi, les chercheurs disposeront des cartes en trois dimensions les plus d\u00e9taill\u00e9es de l&rsquo;Univers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Lever enfin le myst\u00e8re de la fameuse \u00e9nergie noire ? <\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nDesi&nbsp;permettra aux chercheurs d\u2019interroger l\u2019\u00e9volution de l\u2019Univers. Les mesures de distance des objets observ\u00e9s seront confront\u00e9es aux pr\u00e9dictions du Mod\u00e8le standard de la cosmologie. Celui-ci suppose l\u2019existence d\u2019une composante inconnue et jamais directement observ\u00e9e que les chercheurs appellent \u2018\u00e9nergie noire\u2019. Cette \u00e9nergie serait responsable de l\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration, depuis cinq milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es, de l\u2019expansion de l&rsquo;Univers.<br \/>\n\u00ab&nbsp;Desi&nbsp;repr\u00e9sente un progr\u00e8s significatif par rapport aux instruments pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents par le nombre d\u2019objets mesur\u00e9s. En regardant des objets tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents et \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9poques, nous pourrons cartographier l&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;Univers et comprendre sa composition \u00bb,&nbsp;explique Nathalie Palanque-Delabrouille&nbsp;(CEA-Irfu, Paris Saclay),&nbsp;co-porte-parole de la collaboration&nbsp;Desi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Une puissante machine \u00e0 remonter le temps <\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nCompte tenu du fait que la lumi\u00e8re de chaque astre met un certain temps \u00e0 nous parvenir, les cartes fournies par&nbsp;Desi&nbsp;donneront acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9volution pass\u00e9e de l\u2019Univers \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9poques.<br \/>\nLes galaxies et les quasars les plus lointains visibles avec les instruments actuels permettent de remonter \u00e0 11 milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es dans le pass\u00e9. En multipliant par 15 le nombre d\u2019objets analys\u00e9s par rapport aux relev\u00e9s existants,&nbsp;Desi&nbsp;permettra d\u2019\u00e9tablir la carte la plus dense sur la plus grande \u00e9tendue jamais observ\u00e9e.<br \/>\nLa collaboration internationale&nbsp;Desi&nbsp;est pilot\u00e9e par le Lawrence Berkeley National&nbsp;Laboratory&nbsp;(Berkeley&nbsp;Lab) du&nbsp;Departmentof Energy am\u00e9ricain. Elle rassemble, pr\u00e8s de 500 chercheurs de 75 institutions dans 13 pays.
