Le lancement marque le point culminant de 35 ans de d\u00e9veloppement technologique pour Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL, une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de Airbus Defence and Space) qui a commenc\u00e9 en 1985 en tant que spin-off de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Surrey au Royaume-Uni en d\u00e9veloppant de petits satellites. Il a depuis vu plus de 70 de ses syst\u00e8mes mis en orbite<\/p>\n<p>Le lancement r\u00e9ussi du satellite Quantum pour Eutelsat est le premier satellite g\u00e9ostationnaire de SSTL et le premier avec une architecture d\u00e9finie par logiciel afin que la plate-forme puisse \u00eatre reconfigur\u00e9e pendant l&rsquo;exploitation. Malgr\u00e9 son nom, le satellite Quantum ne fournit pas de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 quantique. La petite plate-forme GEO de SSTL a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ue et d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e gr\u00e2ce au financement ARTES de l&rsquo;ESA, et en 2014, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 engag\u00e9e pour fournir la plate-forme, les panneaux de propulsion et le tube de pouss\u00e9e central pour Quantum par le propri\u00e9taire de SSTL Airbus Defence and Space.<\/p>\n<p>SSTL a \u00e9t\u00e9 rachet\u00e9 par Astrium, filiale d&rsquo;EADS, en 2009 mais est devenu en 2014 une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ind\u00e9pendante au sein du groupe Airbus Defence and Space dans le cadre de la restructuration d&rsquo;EADS. Les huit faisceaux du satellite peuvent \u00eatre redirig\u00e9s pour se d\u00e9placer en temps quasi r\u00e9el afin de fournir des informations aux passagers \u00e0 bord d&rsquo;avions ou de navires en mouvement et peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre ajust\u00e9s en appuyant sur un bouton, afin que davantage de donn\u00e9es soient transmises lorsque la demande augmente.<\/p>\n<p>SSTL dit qu&rsquo;il utilisera l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience du projet pour de nouveaux domaines technologiques tels que les communications lunaires.<\/p>\n<p>Le satellite Quantum a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 par ArianeSpace qui met en \u00e9vidence son r\u00f4le de soci\u00e9t\u00e9 europ\u00e9enne de lancement de satellites face aux projets de d\u00e9veloppement de lanceurs concurrents. \u00ab Avec ce nouveau succ\u00e8s d&rsquo;Ariane 5, le premier en 2021, Arianespace est heureux de poursuivre son service aupr\u00e8s de deux de ses clients les plus fid\u00e8les, les op\u00e9rateurs Embratel et Eutelsat \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 St\u00e9phane Isra\u00ebl, PDG d&rsquo;Arianespace. \u00ab Cette mission avec \u00e0 bord deux satellites tr\u00e8s innovants, construits par Maxar Technologies et Airbus Defence and Space et l&rsquo;ESA, a reconfirm\u00e9 \u00e0 quel point la comp\u00e9titivit\u00e9 et la fiabilit\u00e9 de nos solutions de lancement sont au service des ambitions de nos clients.<\/p>\n<p>Aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d&rsquo;Eutelsat Quantum se trouvait le Star One D2 construit par Maxar en Californie pour l&rsquo;op\u00e9rateur br\u00e9silien Embratel. Pour ce vol, le lanceur Ariane 5 a emport\u00e9 10 515 kg, utilisant un \u00e9tage sup\u00e9rieur cryog\u00e9nique appel\u00e9 ESC-D, dont les r\u00e9servoirs ont \u00e9t\u00e9 agrandis pour cette mission. \u00ab Le d\u00e9collage d&rsquo;Ariane 5 depuis le Centre Spatial Guyanais est un symbole fort \u00e0 l&rsquo;heure o\u00f9 l&rsquo;Europe red\u00e9finit ses ambitions spatiales, notamment avec les lanceurs \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Andr\u00e9-Hubert Roussel, PDG d&rsquo;ArianeGroup. \u00ab Notre solide expertise sera \u00e9galement un facteur majeur de succ\u00e8s d&rsquo;Ariane 6, dont le premier mod\u00e8le de vol est en cours d&rsquo;int\u00e9gration sur nos sites en France et en Allemagne.<\/p>\n<p>La technologie SDR aura \u00e9galement des implications plus larges car Eutelsat est d\u00e9sormais un actionnaire majeur de OneWeb qui lance une constellation de satellites en orbite terrestre basse plut\u00f4t que GEO. Le gouvernement britannique est \u00e9galement un actionnaire majeur de OneWeb et il y aura une pression importante pour la technologie britannique reconfigurable d\u00e9finie par logiciel dans la deuxi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de satellites qui sont actuellement en cours de d\u00e9finition.
