Sa mission est de collecter des donn\u00e9es sur l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de nos for\u00eats. Les for\u00eats jouent un r\u00f4le essentiel dans la r\u00e9duction du carbone de notre climat et les informations recueillies donneront un bon aper\u00e7u de ce r\u00f4le.<\/p>\n<p>La bande P s&rsquo;\u00e9tend de 225 MHz \u00e0 390 MHz &#8211; des ondes longues inhabituelles par rapport aux satellites \u00ab\u00a0normaux\u00a0\u00bb que nous connaissons. Lars Ulander, professeur de t\u00e9l\u00e9d\u00e9tection radar \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 de technologie de Chalmers, et quelques coll\u00e8gues ont soumis la proposition il y a vingt ans, mais aujourd&rsquo;hui le satellite est fonctionnel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00ab\u00a0Notre id\u00e9e \u00e9tait d&rsquo;utiliser un type de radar tr\u00e8s particulier pour cartographier les for\u00eats du monde depuis l&rsquo;espace. L&rsquo;objectif \u00e9tait de comprendre comment les for\u00eats affectent le climat et comment le changement climatique affecte les for\u00eats\u00a0\u00bb, explique Lars Ulander.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Le satellite Biomass op\u00e8re \u00e0 une altitude de 666 km et produit en permanence des cartes mondiales.
