Lorsque le professeur Leif Asp et ses coll\u00e8gues ont publi\u00e9 leurs premiers r\u00e9sultats en 2018 sur la mani\u00e8re dont les fibres de carbone rigides et r\u00e9sistantes pouvaient stocker chimiquement l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie \u00e9lectrique, l&rsquo;avanc\u00e9e a suscit\u00e9 une r\u00e9elle attention. L&rsquo;information selon laquelle les fibres de carbone peuvent servir d&rsquo;\u00e9lectrodes dans les batteries lithium-ion a \u00e9t\u00e9 largement diffus\u00e9e et la r\u00e9alisation a \u00e9t\u00e9 class\u00e9e parmi les grandes avanc\u00e9e de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e par le prestigieux Physics World.<\/p>\n<p id=\"lower-weight-requires-less-energy\" class=\"text-3xl font-bold text-neutral-900\"><strong>Un poids plus faible n\u00e9cessite moins d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Depuis lors, le groupe de recherche a continu\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper son concept afin d&rsquo;augmenter \u00e0 la fois la rigidit\u00e9 et la densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique. La premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape en 2021, la batterie avait une densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique de 24 wattheures par kilogramme (Wh\/kg), soit environ 20 % de la capacit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une batterie lithium-ion comparable. Aujourd&rsquo;hui, elle atteint 30 Wh\/kg. Bien que ce chiffre soit encore inf\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui des batteries actuelles, il faut aussi noter qu&rsquo;une batterie en mat\u00e9riau plus l\u00e9ger, r\u00e9duit le poids du v\u00e9hicule et par la m\u00eame l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 son fonctionnement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00ab\u00a0Nous avons r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 cr\u00e9er une batterie en composite de fibres de carbone qui est aussi rigide que l&rsquo;aluminium et suffisamment dense en \u00e9nergie pour trouver des applications pratique . Tout comme un squelette humain, la batterie a plusieurs fonctions en m\u00eame temps\u00a0\u00bb, explique Richa Chaudhary, chercheur \u00e0 Chalmers et premier auteur d&rsquo;un article scientifique r\u00e9cemment publi\u00e9 dans Advanced Materials.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Investir dans des v\u00e9hicules l\u00e9gers et \u00e9conomes en \u00e9nergie est une \u00e9vidence si nous voulons \u00e9conomiser l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et penser aux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations futures. Nous avons effectu\u00e9 des calculs sur les voitures \u00e9lectriques qui montrent qu&rsquo;elles pourraient rouler jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 70 % plus longtemps qu&rsquo;aujourd&rsquo;hui si elles \u00e9taient \u00e9quip\u00e9es de batteries structurelles comp\u00e9titives\u00a0\u00bb, explique Leif Asp, directeur de recherche et professeur au d\u00e9partement des sciences industrielles et des mat\u00e9riaux de l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 Chalmers.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsqu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit de v\u00e9hicules, bien s\u00fbr, les exigences en mati\u00e8re de conception sont \u00e9lev\u00e9es, car il faut que la cellule soit suffisamment solide pour r\u00e9pondre aux exigences de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. La cellule de batterie structurelle de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de recherche a consid\u00e9rablement augment\u00e9 sa rigidit\u00e9, ou plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment son module d&rsquo;\u00e9lasticit\u00e9, mesur\u00e9 en gigapascal (GPa), qui est pass\u00e9 de 25 \u00e0 70.
