Implantable, elle permettra de communiquer directement du cerveau au langage.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Les interfaces cerveau-machine (ICM) sont apparues comme une solution prometteuse pour r\u00e9tablir la communication et le contr\u00f4le chez les personnes souffrant de graves d\u00e9ficiences motrices. Traditionnellement, ces syst\u00e8mes sont encombrants, gourmands en \u00e9nergie et limit\u00e9s dans leurs applications pratiques. Des chercheurs de l&rsquo;EPFL ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re interface cerveau-machine miniaturis\u00e9e (MiBMI) qui pr\u00e9sente des performances \u00e9lev\u00e9es, dans un minuscule encombrement et \u00e0 tr\u00e8s basse consommation. Elle est de plus tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cise et polyvalente.<\/p>\n<p>Publi\u00e9e dans le dernier num\u00e9ro de l&rsquo;IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits et pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;International Solid-State Circuits Conference, la MiBMI am\u00e9liore non seulement l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 et l&rsquo;\u00e9volutivit\u00e9 des interfaces cerveau-machine, mais ouvre \u00e9galement la voie \u00e0 des dispositifs pratiques et enti\u00e8rement implantables. Cette technologie pourrait am\u00e9liorer consid\u00e9rablement la qualit\u00e9 de vie des patients atteints de maladies telles que la scl\u00e9rose lat\u00e9rale amyotrophique (SLA) et les l\u00e9sions de la moelle \u00e9pini\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote\">\n<p><em>\u00ab\u00a0Cette avanc\u00e9e nous rapproche de solutions pratiques et implantables\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Mahsa Shoaran.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>La petite taille et la faible consommation d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie du MiBMI sont des caract\u00e9ristiques essentielles qui rendent le syst\u00e8me adapt\u00e9 aux applications implantables. Son caract\u00e8re peu invasif garantit la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la praticit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une utilisation en milieu clinique et dans la vie r\u00e9elle. Il s&rsquo;agit \u00e9galement d&rsquo;un syst\u00e8me enti\u00e8rement int\u00e9gr\u00e9, ce qui signifie que l&rsquo;enregistrement et le traitement sont effectu\u00e9s sur deux puces extr\u00eamement petites d&rsquo;une surface totale de 8 <sup>mm2<\/sup>.
