Elles utilisent l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne et l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne pour produire de l&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 et alimenter des machines telles que des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9cologiques. Les \u00e9lectrolyseurs inversent ce processus en utilisant l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie \u00e9lectrique pour s\u00e9parer l&rsquo;eau en hydrog\u00e8ne et en oxyg\u00e8ne. Les deux types de syst\u00e8mes \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne n\u00e9cessitent des plaques bipolaires (BPP), qui comprennent deux composants de conversion essentiels : l&rsquo;assemblage membrane-\u00e9lectrode (MEA), dans un syst\u00e8me de pile \u00e0 combustible, et la membrane rev\u00eatue d&rsquo;un catalyseur (CCM), dans un \u00e9lectrolyseur.<\/p>\n<p>Dans une pile \u00e0 combustible, la structure \u00e0 double paroi des plaques bipolaires permet \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne et \u00e0 l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne de circuler de part et d&rsquo;autre de l&rsquo;AME tandis que l&rsquo;eau refroidit la pile. Le probl\u00e8me est que le processus actuel de production des plaques bipolaires est co\u00fbteux, ce qui emp\u00eache l&rsquo;application de la technologie de l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne et donc, par exemple, l&rsquo;utilisation g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e et rentable des v\u00e9hicules \u00e0 pile \u00e0 combustible aliment\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<h2>R\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts<\/h2>\n<p>Ce potentiel ne peut \u00eatre exploit\u00e9 que si le co\u00fbt de la production de masse des principaux composants concern\u00e9s est r\u00e9duit. Des chercheurs du Fraunhofer IWU de Chemnitz, en partenariat avec Profiroll Technologies GmbH, ont mis au point un prototype de syst\u00e8me de gaufrage de cylindres : BPPflexRoll. La ligne de production est op\u00e9rationnelle au Fraunhofer IWU.
