C&rsquo;est en tout cas ce qu&rsquo;ont fait des chercheurs de l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 am\u00e9ricaine Brown, en construisant un syst\u00e8me de communication sans fil qui imite le cerveau \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;un r\u00e9seau de minuscules capteurs en silicium, chacun de la taille d&rsquo;un grain de sable. Les chercheurs esp\u00e8rent que cette technologie pourra un jour \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e dans des interfaces cerveau-machine implantables pour lire l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 c\u00e9r\u00e9brale.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Chaque capteur, mesurant 300 microm\u00e8tres sur 300, agit comme un n\u0153ud sans fil dans un vaste r\u00e9seau, analogue aux neurones du cerveau. Lorsqu&rsquo;un n\u0153ud d\u00e9tecte un \u00e9v\u00e9nement, tel qu&rsquo;un changement de temp\u00e9rature ou une activit\u00e9 neuronale, le dispositif envoie les donn\u00e9es sous la forme d&rsquo;un signal \u00ab\u00a0spike\u00a0\u00bb, constitu\u00e9 d&rsquo;une s\u00e9rie de courtes impulsions de radiofr\u00e9quence, \u00e0 un r\u00e9cepteur central. Ce r\u00e9cepteur d\u00e9code ensuite l&rsquo;information.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00ab\u00a0Le cerveau est extr\u00eamement efficace pour traiter de grandes quantit\u00e9s de donn\u00e9es\u00a0\u00bb, explique Arto Nurmikko, professeur d&rsquo;ing\u00e9nierie et de physique \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 Brown. C&rsquo;est pourquoi son laboratoire a choisi de d\u00e9velopper un r\u00e9seau de microcapteurs discrets qui sont \u00ab\u00a0neuromorphiques\u00a0\u00bb, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire qu&rsquo;ils s&rsquo;inspirent du fonctionnement du cerveau. Et les similitudes ne s&rsquo;arr\u00eatent pas l\u00e0 : selon Kurmikko, les signaux sans fil et les m\u00e9thodes informatiques s&rsquo;inspirent \u00e9galement du cerveau.
