L&rsquo;\u00e9quipe a franchi une \u00e9tape particuli\u00e8rement difficile appel\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0point de pincement\u00a0\u00bb lorsque l&rsquo;instrument passe de 15\u00a0\u00b0K \u00e0 6,4\u00a0\u00b0K. Cela \u00e9tait n\u00e9cessaire pour \u00e9viter l&rsquo;impact des courants d&rsquo;obscurit\u00e9.\u00ab Je suis ravi qu&rsquo;apr\u00e8s tant d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es de travail acharn\u00e9 de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe MIRI, l&rsquo;instrument soit maintenant froid et pr\u00eat pour les prochaines \u00e9tapes. Le fait que le refroidisseur ait si bien fonctionn\u00e9 est une r\u00e9ussite majeure pour la mission \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Gillian Wright, chercheuse principale europ\u00e9enne pour MIRI et directrice du UK Astronomy Technology Centre (ATC).\u00a0\u00bbL&rsquo;\u00e9quipe du refroidisseur MIRI a consacr\u00e9 beaucoup d&rsquo;efforts au d\u00e9veloppement de la proc\u00e9dure pour le point de pincement\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Analyn Schneider, chef de projet pour MIRI au Jet Propulsion Laboratory de la NASA en Californie du Sud, aux \u00c9tats-Unis. \u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;\u00e9quipe \u00e9tait \u00e0 la fois excit\u00e9e et nerveuse au d\u00e9but de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 critique. En fin de compte, c&rsquo;\u00e9tait une ex\u00e9cution classique de la proc\u00e9dure, et les performances plus froides sont encore meilleures que pr\u00e9vu.<br \/>\nLa basse temp\u00e9rature est n\u00e9cessaire car les quatre instruments de Webb d\u00e9tectent la lumi\u00e8re infrarouge. Les galaxies lointaines, les \u00e9toiles cach\u00e9es dans des cocons de poussi\u00e8re et les plan\u00e8tes en dehors du syst\u00e8me solaire \u00e9mettent toutes de la lumi\u00e8re infrarouge. MIRI d\u00e9tecte des longueurs d&rsquo;onde infrarouges plus longues que les trois autres instruments, ce qui signifie qu&rsquo;il doit \u00eatre encore plus froid.Le capteur MIRI doit \u00eatre froid pour supprimer le courant d&rsquo;obscurit\u00e9, ou courant \u00e9lectrique cr\u00e9\u00e9 par la vibration des atomes dans les d\u00e9tecteurs eux-m\u00eames. Le courant d&rsquo;obscurit\u00e9 imite un vrai signal dans les d\u00e9tecteurs, donnant la fausse impression qu&rsquo;ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 touch\u00e9s par la lumi\u00e8re d&rsquo;une source externe. Ces faux signaux peuvent noyer les vrais signaux que les astronomes veulent trouver. \u00c9tant donn\u00e9 que la temp\u00e9rature est une mesure de la vitesse \u00e0 laquelle les atomes du d\u00e9tecteur vibrent, r\u00e9duire la temp\u00e9rature signifie moins de vibrations, ce qui signifie moins de courant d&rsquo;obscurit\u00e9.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Autres articles\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a
