De nouvelles m\u00e9thodes se basant sur d&rsquo;autres mat\u00e9riaux comme le nitrure de silicium (Si<sub>3<\/sub>N<sub>4<\/sub>), dont les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s sont tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressantes, ont fait leur apparition. La fili\u00e8re de photonique int\u00e9gr\u00e9e sur nitrure de silicium d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e au CEA-Leti est maintenant en mesure de de passer \u00e0 une phase de production de puces photoniques destin\u00e9es aux op\u00e9rations de R&amp;D de laboratoires ext\u00e9rieurs.<\/p>\n<p>Par rapport au silicium, les guides optiques en nitrure de silicium pr\u00e9sentent des pertes de propagation exceptionnellement faibles\u00a0: quelques dB par m\u00e8tre seulement, au lieu de 1 dB par centim\u00e8tre environ pour le silicium. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leur grande qualit\u00e9 de fabrication, ils affichent en outre un coefficient d&rsquo;absorption beaucoup plus faible. Concr\u00e8tement, ces propri\u00e9t\u00e9s permettent de r\u00e9aliser des composants pr\u00e9sentant des performances accrues. Elles augmentent notamment la puissance maximum qu&rsquo;il est possible d&rsquo;injecter dans les guides d&rsquo;ondes et permettent de travailler sur une plus grande gamme de longueur d&rsquo;onde que le silicium (typiquement du visible jusqu&rsquo;au moyen infrarouge).<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration des techniques de d\u00e9p\u00f4t du Si<sub>4<\/sub>N<sub>3<\/sub> a permis de mettre au point une librairie de composants valid\u00e9s et reproductibles, laissant envisager la production de circuits plus complexes. Des lidars ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 produits.
