S\u2019agissant, par exemple, de cellules ou de bact\u00e9ries, la possibilit\u00e9 de les d\u00e9placer, pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment et sans contact, pour les agencer selon des motifs r\u00e9guliers peut faire gagner un temps consid\u00e9rable et pr\u00e9cieux en vue de certaines analyses biologiques.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDes techniques optiques existent d\u00e9j\u00e0 pour d\u00e9placer sans contact des objets en tirant parti de la force de radiation. Toutefois, cette technologie reste relativement lourde \u00e0 mettre en \u0153uvre et pose des probl\u00e8mes d&rsquo;\u00e9chauffement de la mati\u00e8re par absorption.<br \/>\nUne autre approche, suivie par l\u2019\u00e9quipe de chercheurs conduite par le CEA Leti avec leurs coll\u00e8gues de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes, est de tirer parti des ondes sonores pour d\u00e9placer les objets. En effet, le son est \u00e9galement capable d&rsquo;exercer des forces \u00e0 distance, ou de mettre en route des \u00e9coulements dans un fluide. Ces effets sont non lin\u00e9aires, c&rsquo;est \u00e0 dire proportionnels au carr\u00e9 du champ de pression acoustique, et sont non n\u00e9gligeables \u00e0 forte amplitude. Il est possible de montrer qu&rsquo;il existe essentiellement deux effets, la force de radiation acoustique, analogue de la force optique cit\u00e9e plus haut, et&nbsp;le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de \u00ab\u00a0vent acoustique\u00a0\u00bb (en anglais \u00ab\u00a0acoustic streaming\u00a0\u00bb).<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nC&rsquo;est ce second effet qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 par les chercheurs dans le but de d\u00e9placer des microbilles afin de pouvoir les agencer selon des motifs pr\u00e9d\u00e9finis. En pratique, ce \u00ab\u00a0vent acoustique\u00a0\u00bb peut \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme la mise en mouvement d&rsquo;un fluide au moyen d&rsquo;une oscillation d&rsquo;une onde acoustique \u00e0 plus haute fr\u00e9quence. A forte amplitude, ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de vent acoustique appara\u00eet : c\u2019est la r\u00e9ciproque du ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de bruit a\u00e9ro-acoustique cr\u00e9\u00e9 par les tourbillons pr\u00e9sents dans le sillage turbulent d&rsquo;un v\u00e9hicule \u00e0 grande vitesse. En effet, le son peut cr\u00e9er des tourbillons, tout comme les tourbillons cr\u00e9ent du son.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Les chercheurs ont r\u00e9alis\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle microm\u00e9trique un analogue d\u2019un tambour musical. Afin d&rsquo;exciter les vibrations de cette membrane r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en silicium, un mat\u00e9riau piezo \u00e9lectrique d\u00e9pos\u00e9 en couches minces sur le substrat \u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9. Par ailleurs, le silicium conf\u00e8re une grande qualit\u00e9 \u00e0 la membrane, permettant de r\u00e9aliser des r\u00e9sonances bien d\u00e9finies.<br \/>\nAinsi, le syst\u00e8me se compose d&rsquo;une membrane, d\u2019une \u00e9paisseur de seulement 6 microns et d\u2019un diam\u00e8tre de l&rsquo;ordre du millim\u00e8tre, situ\u00e9e au fond d&rsquo;une cavit\u00e9 de m\u00eame taille grav\u00e9e dans le silicium.<br \/>\nLorsque cette membrane est utilis\u00e9e en milieu liquide, les chercheurs observent que des microbilles (typiquement, d\u2019une dizaine de microns) s&rsquo;agencent selon des motifs r\u00e9guliers qui sont directement fonction de la fr\u00e9quence utilis\u00e9e pour l&rsquo;excitation. Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne, nomm\u00e9 figures acoustiques de Chladni, n\u2019est pas nouveau. Ici, \u00e0 la diff\u00e9rence des exp\u00e9riences de Chladni, le comportement observ\u00e9 et la physique en jeu sont modifi\u00e9s \u00e0 la fois par la finesse de la membrane, autorisant de hautes fr\u00e9quences de r\u00e9sonance, et l&rsquo;utilisation en milieu liquide. En amincissant le substrat, il est possible de reproduire des figures de Chladni dites inverses: les particules migrent alors au ventre de vibration et non plus aux n\u0153uds.<\/p>\n<p>Le r\u00e9sultat de ces recherches ouvre, d\u00e8s lors, la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019un nouveau type de manipulation dynamique en milieu liquide, relativement simple, de micro ou nanoparticules, permettant de passer d&rsquo;un mode de vibration \u00e0 un autre et de cr\u00e9er ou d\u00e9faire des motifs de fa\u00e7on quasi instantan\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cea.fr\/presse\/Pages\/actualites-communiques\/sciences-de-la-matiere\/Utiliser-son-pour-deplacer-des-particules.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.cea.fr\/Utiliser-son-pour-deplacer-des-particules<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs du CEA et de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Grenoble Alpes a \u00e9labor\u00e9 un proc\u00e9d\u00e9 innovant de manipulation dynamique des micros ou nanoparticules bas\u00e9 sur la mise en \u0153uvre de vibrations sonores.
